On Saturday 1st Feb, the Buxton Family Day brought our community together for an unforgettable afternoon of basketball, family fun, and community spirit for Round 14 of Geelong United’s inaugural WNBL season.
United put up a strong fight against the reigning eight-time champions, UC Capitals, and despite losing the game, the team showed resilience and determination throughout.
"This partnership is built on shared values, and we’re proud to stand alongside Geelong United in this defining chapter for the region. It’s incredible to see how sport can connect people and create a sense of belonging in the community."
Off the court, United’s experts put our Buxton children through their paces in a basketball clinic, with family-friendly activities including face painting, a photo booth, and pizza trucks turning the day into a celebration of the teamwork, passion, and community spirit that lie at the heart of this partnership.
While finals may be out of reach this season, United’s journey has only just begun. Geelong’s entry into the WNBL is a milestone for the region, marking the return of top-tier women’s basketball for the first time since 1986, and inspiring future generations of female athletes.
Buxton is proud to stand alongside United in their debut season - and beyond - championing community growth, local talent, and the continual pursuit of excellence. Together, we’re helping shape the future of Geelong, on and off the court.
