Buxton goes Pink: Supporting National Breast Cancer Foundation

by Buxton Marketing

Mentone Team

TL;DR

  • This October, Buxton is turning pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and marks our 19-year partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
  • Through fundraising, community initiatives and raising awareness across Victoria, we're helping support vital research towards a future where no one dies from breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month; a time to shine a light on a disease that touches thousands of Australians every year. Every day, 56 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer. Behind every diagnosis is a person, a network of loved ones and a community impacted by the news.

It's a cause that reaches well beyond the neighbourhoods we serve. It's also one that holds personal significance for many across our own Buxton team.

That's why, this October, we're going pink.

Across Victoria, you'll see our teams bringing a splash of pink to their marketing and local activities, helping raise awareness and, where appropriate, funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

For 19 years, Buxton Real Estate Group has proudly partnered with NBCF, supporting its vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. It's a commitment that has grown through the efforts of our people, with team-led fundraising, community events, morning teas and Breast Cancer Awareness Month initiatives helping contribute to an important cause.

The funds raised help support research into better ways to prevent, detect, treat and stop the progression of breast cancer. It's research that has the potential to change lives, and bring us closer to a future where a breast cancer diagnosis no longer means losing someone we love.

Every contribution counts.

If you're in a position to donate, every dollar can help fund the research needed to make that future possible. And if donating isn't possible right now, sharing the message, joining the conversation or simply encouraging someone to stay informed about their health can make a difference too.

Because meaningful change takes all of us. And sometimes, it starts with something as simple as turning pink.

Whether it's starting a conversation, sharing the message or making a contribution, every action can make a difference. If you'd like to support the cause, please visit our NBCF fundraising page here.

FAQs

What are the steps for early detection of breast cancer?

The NBCF encourages people to be breast aware and familiar with what is normal for their body. Knowing what to look and feel for can help you recognise changes that may need medical attention.

Some important steps include:

  • Get to know your breasts: Become familiar with their usual appearance and feel so you can recognise when something changes.
  • Look out for changes: This may include a new lump or thickening, changes in breast size or shape, nipple changes or discharge, skin dimpling or unusual pain.
  • Don't ignore changes: If you notice something new or unusual, speak with your GP promptly. While most breast changes aren't cancer, it's important to have them checked.
  • Stay up to date with screening: Regular breast screening can help detect breast cancer early, sometimes before symptoms appear. In Australia, women aged 40 and over and eligible for free screening mammograms. Speak with your GP to discuss further.

Being breast aware and attending recommended screenings are important steps towards early detection. For more information, visit the National Breast Cancer Foundation's breast health and awareness resources.
