Buxton agents shine as finalists in prestigious REB Awards

Two outstanding individuals from the Buxton Real Estate Group are finalists in the prestigious Real Estate Business (REB) Awards.

Sophie Kennedy-Rush and Melissa Austin have been recognised for their exceptional contributions to the industry.

Sophie, nominated for Business Development Manager of the Year in Property Management, brings an impressive 18 years of industry experience to the table. Starting her journey as a receptionist, working her way through Property Management and on to her current position as a Business Development Manager for the Buxton Geelong group, Sophie has garnered several awards throughout her career, including Most Property Management Listings 2018, Property Management Team of the Year and Runner up BDM 2016 for Victoria/Tasmania.

What truly sets Sophie apart is her genuine passion for the profession, which has grown in  her nearly two decades of experience.

“Where I really thrive is helping others, and leading and nurturing a team. I am so proud and grateful to be acknowledged and recognised among so many," Sophie said.

Reflecting on her journey and future within the industry, Sophie says she has aspirations of taking on a directorship  one day.

"There is a lack of women in the leadership space, in offices and franchises, because it's difficult for a  female as we face many challenges men don’t,” she said.

“Being part of a network like Buxton and surrounded by people who support women to succeed, is so rare in this industry.

“I genuinely believe great feats are possible with Buxton, the sky's the limit.”

Beyond her day-to-day, Sophie finds satisfaction in hosting training sessions, recording podcasts and being involved in information sessions to help her team or new agents overcome challenges.

When asked what’s next on the horizon, Sophie shared “I would love to grow the business development team, and be able to do what I’m doing in an even bigger form.”

In addition to Sophie’s nomination, REB Finalist Melissa Austin of Buxton Stonningston, has been nominated for Property Manager of the Year (Metropolitan), with an equally impressive 16-year career in the industry. Starting as a receptionist in her hometown of Nagambie, Melissa's journey with Buxton has been marked by continuous growth and success.

Having won Property Manager of the Year for the Buxton Real Estate Group in 2023, Melissa has transitioned from a Senior Property Manager to a Team Leader, and now holds the position of Associate Director at Buxton Stonnington.

"It’s been so exciting and rewarding to grow in the same company, as it develops as well,” she said.

“We have a great team of twelve ladies who are all so supportive of one another and I love what we do, which is building long-term relationships.

“Working with great people really does make my job a whole lot easier."

For over a decade, the REB awards nationally recognise the leading real estate professionals and offices, and their dedication to the industry. It is known as the benchmark for excellence around Australia and is an exceptional achievement to be considered a finalist among thousands of industry professionals.
