Purveyors of Australian design, The Design Files announce the shortlist for the inaugural Design Files Awards coming up in September.

The Design Files team have spoken, and the list of their shortlisted finalists for the Design Files Awards 2019 have been announced! TDF is one of Australia’s most popular design blogs, that celebrates our local designers working in all realms including gardens, arts, architecture, interiors, homewares and much more. The awards were created to acknowledge the designers, architects and makers who add great value to the Australian creative community.

The award-winners will be announced on September 19th from the talented pool of shortlisted designers across 12 categories. Their work is creative, thoughtful and forward-thinking, and we have selected some of the shortlisted designers from each category so you can peep their amazing work.

Created to client brief, this elliptical wall hanging incorporates ‘sunny Brisbane’ hues and charcoal merino warping to complement a residential living space. Woven in two part, it utilises wool offcuts.

A large coiled stoneware vessel, which is encrusted with more than 1,000 hand-sculpted spherical protrusions. Its hourglass and ovoid shapes combine into a totem, appearing at once ancient, mystic, surreal and futuristic.

Designed for a downsizing, retiring couple this modest two-bedroom home and studio balances its compact footprint with height, light, and volume. Since the site is exposed to coastal weather, the materiality of the home is robust and resilient.

Two existing prefab pod structures have been ‘stitched together via a new link’ to create a comfortable holiday home that maximises rainwater collection, solar energy generation, access to natural light and garden space.
