An auctioneer’s role is about reading what’s in front of them-the people, the pace, the hesitation, the energy. It’s knowing when to push, when to pause, and when to let the moment speak for itself.

Each year, we bring this to life through our Auctioneer Accreditation program. This is our annual, complimentary initiative designed to build confidence, capability and individual style across our team.

Delivered by Mentone Director Mathew Cox and Sales Executive Sarah Thompson, the program takes participants through the art of auctioneering over five in-person sessions. From refining their voice and building presence to understanding buyer behaviour and responding in the moment, each session challenges participants to develop their own approach.

Because great auctioneers aren’t created from a script. They’re built by understanding what makes each person effective, then giving them the tools and confidence to bring that to life.

The program concludes at Elwood Bathers, where participants put their skills into practice in front of peers and leaders. It’s a moment that captures Buxton at its best: backing our people, celebrating growth and showing up for one another.
