Abby the Story Dog
In the last 12 months with heaps of support, Story Dogs has been able to help over 2,000 children to become lifelong readers and has delivered over 48,000 reading sessions to disadvantaged children.
Lots of new dogs have been trained and are now working in schools and libraries around Australia and Story Dog now help over 2,520 children across Australia each week.
Thanks to Buxton Dingley Village and Keysborough for helping support Story Dog Abby at Dingley Primary School. Abby loves receiving pats and cuddles from the students. We see them all grow in confidence and ability and they love their weekly Story Dog visits.
The children and teachers love Abby at the school and she has been treated like a rock star.
When children read to a dog, the outcomes are amazing! It is a non-judgemental setting, the children's focus improves, their literacy skills increase and their confidence soars. The accepting, loving nature of dogs gives this program its magic and helps children relax, open up, try harder and have fun while reading to a friendly, calm dog.
Buxton Dingley Village and Keysborough believe that no child should be left behind in literacy and we are proud to continue to sponsor Story Dogs and Dingley Primary School.
